1. Have your feet measured:

Most people have not had their feet measured in 15 – 20 years and most people are wearing the wrong size shoe, shape shoe and type of shoe for their feet.


2. How a shoe should fit:

You need to buy shoes that are the shape of your feet. Your toes need to be able to wiggle, but your feet should not be moving around when you walk. Pointy toe shoes are not the shape of your feet and can cause problems.


3.  Signs that your shoes do not fit properly:

If you are getting calluses, corns, bunions or blisters, it is a sure sign that your shoes do not fit properly and you may need more arch support.


4.  Shoes wear out:

Please do not down grade your shoes to cut the grass and in the yard. When you are on your feet, you need support. You may think that your shoes are still fine, but they may be broken down and no longer giving you the support

you need.


5.  Wear shoes for what they are intended for:

It is important that you wear the proper shoes for what they are intended for. If you are playing tennis you need to wear tennis shoes. Running shoes are made for running, etc. You could cause damage to your feet, if you wear a walking shoe to play tennis in.


6.  Shoe adjustments:

We are able to stretch, adjust and customize shoes for feet that have difficulty fitting in to regular shoes. We also have access to shoes that are extra depth and come in various sizes and widths.


7.  Diabetic feet need special care and attention:

If you have diabetes it is crucial for you to have your feet measured by a professional. One of the most common complications with diabetes is neuropathy, or a loss of feeling in the feet or legs. This condition happens when high blood sugar damages the blood vessels that lead to your nerves, affecting their ability to feel sensation. See our diabetic checklist for more details.


8.  Do not go barefoot in the house or walk around in stocking feet:

We recommend that everyone has a proper pair of shoes or supportive slippers for inside the house.


9.  Socks matter:

We do not recommend wearing cotton socks. We carry Dr. Comfort and Aetrex socks, which are recommended for moisture control and added cushion. Aetrex also offers and non binding socks for feet that tend to swell.
